Day 1 Report
7/23/2015 6:55:00 PM

Yesterday at 8:00 AM I stood at the front entrance of AWFS 2015 waiting to see if what was touted to be the biggest, best show in more than a decade would be the reality of the day. By the end of Day 1 it was evident the show was even better than that!

By all accounts, the conference sessions were well worth the price of admission. On the show floor, every exhibitor I spoke to was pleased with the quantity and quality of the floor traffic. The attendees came to buy, and buy they did. Bits, blades, software, CNC equipment, presses, finishes, finishing equipment and much, much more were purchased. All in all a resounding success for AWFS.

The demand by today’s consumers for custom products continues to grow. Therefore, I was not surprised that the trend toward solution-based selling as opposed to product-based selling has become contagious. Steve Carter at Williams & Hussey showed me several unique applications he’s created to address specific client needs. Visit Steve at booth 9441 to see more.

At KCD Software, John and Leslie Murphy told me that clients and prospects alike are coming to them with specific questions and specific requirements that must be addressed by a software package before any purchasing decision can be made. You can catch up with them and the entire KCD team at booth 4449.

Valspar continues to address the ever changing trends in color and design. At booth 9804 you can get a glimpse of today’s color trends and application techniques. Here, earth tones are the name of the game, accented by a strong “pop” color that completes a customer’s color pallet and offer an organic feel in a variety of textures.

Fresh from Austria, ENOSAN is displaying a high gloss acrylic finish that has levels and depth of colors as bright and shiny as the finish on a piano. They are UV–stable, amazingly scratch resistant, and super easy to clean and polish. Stop by booth 4956 where Manuel Romero will be happy to share all the specifics.

On the equipment side, in an effort to address the expanding needs of the North American market, Precision Drive Systems announced a formal strategic partnership with Italian based HITECO, High Technology Component, expanding their line of CNC spindles, tool changers and much more. A leader in spindle repair as well, get the complete picture by visiting Bob Jewel at booth 9422.

I stopped by to visit with Mike Serwa at the Vortex Tool booth to take a look at their Tool Selection Guide App. It is available for iPhone, iPad, Android Phone, or Android Tablet as a free download on or It includes calculators to determine chipload, feed rate, RPM and metric conversions. Convenient links are also provided for the current Vortex Tool catalog and online ordering. And trust me when I say that that’s just the tip of the iceberg. So stop by and visit with Mike at booth 9137 and get the entire story.

Also on the equipment side, Ingersoll Rand premiered their UP6S Series 15-30 hp (11-22kW) fixed speed rotary screw compressor. The TEFC Tri-Voltage (208-230/460 V) motor is quiet as a church mouse operating at 67 dBA and has an enclosure that defends against harsh weather allowing for indoor and/or outdoor applications. To get all the information on this and all the other IR solution-based products, stop by booth 9658 where Kyle Winchester will be happy to help you.

Perhaps the most interesting, unique company I visited with was Amazon Canvas. Their ImagePaint software is an Adobe Illustrator plug-in designed to serve the needs of graphic designers and craftsman who work with decorative materials to produce digital and physical artwork. If you’re involved in custom design that is truly a work of art, this is a MUST SEE product. Located in booth 9354, you can stop by and speak with Vincent Doan, the creator of the product.

Naturally, please be sure to read on. The 10 companies below should also be on your MUST SEE list if you’re searching for high quality products from World Class companies!

See you on the floor!!!
